Western Pike County will see road work on I-72 this week through March

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that work will begin on several bridges on Interstate 72 in Pike County between the New Salem/Pittsfield interchange (exit 31) and the Hull/Payson interchange (exit 10). Work will begin with pre-stage widening of the bridge shoulders starting Monday, Nov. 3. Work will continue in March with resurfacing and painting the bridge decks.
Lane closures will be necessary, and directional signs and barrels will be used to direct traffic through the work zones. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Benefits of this project include a smoother driving surface.
To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
