The Calhoun Warriors remain undefeated and advance to the Final Four after last week’s victory over the Casey-Westfield Warriors, 28-21.
Both teams kept the score close throughout the match with Calhoun scoring seven points in the first quarter and Case Westfield scoring eight. Casey-Westfield was able to carry their one-point lead into halftime with each team putting up six more points in the second quarter, 14-13.
Casey-Westfield was able to add to their lead in the third quarter with a three-yard run and a good kick, but the Calhoun Warriors were able to tie things up in before the end of the third quarter with a one-yard run from Earl Elmore and a reception by Jack Goode from Elmore for two extra points and a tied game, 21-21.
The Calhoun defense was able to hold back Casey-Westfield throughout the fourth quarter leaving them scoreless while Goode scored on a four-yard run and had a good kick to secure Calhoun’s win, 28-21.
The nearly six hour roundtrip drive to Casey-Westfield didn’t stop Calhoun fans from showing up to cheer on the Calhoun Warriors in Round 3 either.
Some traveled by fan bus, some younger fans even rented a limo to make the trip in style, some friends carpooled, and some just threw the family in the vehicle and made a complete Saturday of it.
However, they chose to get there, they definitely arrived. Casey, Illinois is known for being the home of the “Big Things” and Calhoun Warrior fans didn’t let them down bringing the “Big Crowd and even Bigger Voices” as they cheered their team to a victory.
The Calhoun Warriors will face the Brown County Hornets Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. kickoff on home field.
