MARLON MURPHY
By Carmen Ensinger
Greene County continues their strong push to put those who use or distribute drugs behind bars with the sentencing of Roger G. Cox, 43, to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for his felony conviction for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), a Class 4 felony.
On Nov. 10, Cox pled guilty before Greene County Judge Zachary Schmidt in Greene County Circuit Court. The conviction stems from a July 14 incident in Greene County in which Cox was found to be in possession of less than 15 grams of a substance containing fentanyl.
Greene County States Attorney Craig Grummel prosecuted the case.
“I believe that just about every police agency in Greene County has dealt with Roger Cox at one point or another,” he said. “His prosecution and conviction would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of law enforcement throughout the county. I want to extend my sincere appreciation to each agency for their continued dedication to public safety.”
Grummel also expressed gratitude for the professionalism shown during the investigation and court proceedings, noting that cooperation across the various departments continues to be a key factor in maintaining the safety of Greene County residents.
