Man charged with failure to register in Calhoun

On October 28, 2025, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint that a Sex Offender was residing at a residence in Kampsville, Calhoun County, Illinois; without registering that information with Law Enforcement.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, and received additional tips from concerned citizens, and Deputies began conducting surveillance of the residence, and confirmed the suspect was residing at a residence in Calhoun County, Illinois without registering.
On October 30, 2025, a Deputy Sheriff with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make contact with the suspect of the investigation, but the suspect fled on foot.
Subsequent to further investigation and search efforts, the suspect, David A Depper, aged 39, Homeless, was located under a bridge near Highway 96, and taken into custody without further incident.
Depper was charged with Violation of Sex Offender Registry – Failure to Register.
Subsequent to Depper’s arrest, Chief Deputy Zach Hardin continued the investigation, through the execution of multiple court authorized digital media related search warrants; which resulted in additional evidence confirming violations of the Sex Offender Registry.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the concerned citizens who came forward with information, and assisted in search efforts to apprehend the suspect.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
