West Central defense holds Pawnee in final quarter but falls against Hornets

West Central allowed just three fourth quarter points and rallied to beat Pawnee 38-33 in boys’ basketball Dec. 3 at Pawnee.
The Cougars trailed 10-0 after one quarter and 16-2 in the second.
Nick Hamilton converted a three-point play as the Cougars cut the deficit to 16-7 in the second quarter. Pawnee made a last second three-point shot and led 23-11 at halftime.
Blayne Sidwell scored twice to start the third quarter as West Central go within 23-15. Hamilton scored twice, and Ryker Ford made two free throws to cut the margin to 27-21. They trailed 30-23 after three quarters.
Ford scored twice, and Hamilton grabbed an offensive rebound and scored as West Central got within 30-29 with 4:32 remaining in the game.
Hamilton scored with 3:58 remaining in the game and tie the game. Carson Clevenger scored after West Central forced a turnover, and the Cougars led 33-31 with 2:41 remaining in the game.
Clevenger made two free throws with 20 seconds remaining, and Cooper Eddinger made one with 5 seconds remaining to seal the win.
Hamilton scored 13 points to lead West Central (2-1). Ford scored eight points.
Clevenger and Gabe Howard each scored six points. Sidwell scored four points, and Eddinger scored one point.
Blaine Vortman scored with 6 seconds remaining in the game, and the Cougars won the junior varsity game 35-34.
Vortman scored 10 points to lead the Cougars. Eli Crain scored seven points, and Landon Wahl scored five. Eddinger, Thrice Kirkpatrick and Jack Little each scored four points.
Brown County converted a three-point play with 1:27 remaining in the game and beat West Central 47-46 in boys’ basketball Dec 5 at Bluffs.
Ryker Ford scored, and the Cougars led 46-40 with 3:51 remaining in the game.
Brown County got two free throws and a basket to cut the margin to 46-44 before the go ahead three-point play.
Brown County led 13-12 after one quarter and 23-19 late in the second. Nick Hamilton made three free throws with 0.7 remaining in the second quarter, and the Cougars trailed 23-22 at halftime.
The Cougars trailed 34-26 in the third quarter before they scored 15 straight points.
Charlie Smith made a free throw, and Blayne Sidwell scored to cut the margin to five points.
Ford made a three-point basket, and Nick Hamilton scored to tie the game with 33 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Cooper Eddinger scored with 4 seconds remaining after West Central forced a turnover, and the Cougars led 36-34 after three quarters.
Ford made a three-point basket to start the fourth quarter. Gabe Howard scored off an assist from Ford, and West Central led 41-34 with 6:18 remaining in the game.
Ford scored 15 points, and Hamilton scored 14 to lead the Cougars (2-2).
Howard scored six points, and Sidwell scored five. Carson Clevenger scored three points, and Eddinger scored two. Smith scored one point.
Eddinger scored 14 points to lead West Central to a 54-25 win in the junior varsity game.
Blaine Vortman scored 13 points. Thrice Kirkpatrick scored eight points. Eli Crain and Landon Wahl each scored five points. Curtis Renner scored four points. Emerson Little scored three points, and Bryden Newingham scored two.
