West Central allowed just six second half points and beat Pleasant Plains 52-15 in boys’ basketball Dec. 12 at Pleasant Plains.
Pleasant Plains led 13-9 after one quarter and 15-11 in the second.
Ryker Ford made a three-point and a free throw to tie the game at 15. Blayne Sidwell and Nick Hamilton both scored, and the Cougars led by four points with 3:58 remaining in the second quarter. Pleasant Plains tied the game later in the quarter.
Cooper Eddinger made a three-point basket with 1 second remaining, and West Central led 22-19 at halftime.
Sidwell had a steal and scored to start the third quarter. Hamilton scored and increased the lead to 26-19.
Pleasant Plains scored and cut the lead to five points. West Central scored the next 12 points and led 38-21 after three quarters.
Sidwell made a free throw to start the run, and Eddinger made a three-point basket. Blaine Vortman made two free throws, and Eddinger scored as the lead increased to 34-21. Ford and Hamilton both scored, and Cougars led by 17 points after three quarters.
Ford made a three-point to start fourth quarter. He added a free throw as the lead increased to 42-21. Pleasant Plains finally scored with 3:14 remaining in the game.
The Cougars (5-2) outscored Pleasant Plains 29-6 in the second half. Pleasant Plains made just two field goals and two free throws in the second half.
Pleasant Plains led 5-0 early in the game and 11-5 in the first quarter. Carson Clevenger and Hamilton both scored and cut the margin to 11-9. Pleasant Plains scored at the buzzer and led 13-9 after one quarter.
Ford scored 15 points to lead West Central, and Eddinger scored 11.
Hamilton and Sidwell each scored eight points. Clevenger scored five points. Vortman and Gabe Howard each scored two points.
Pleasant Plains won the junior varsity game 48-38.
Landon Wahl scored 12 points to lead the Cougars. Eddinger and Thrice Kirkpatrick each scored seven points. Vortman and Curtis Renner each scored six points.
Three players scored in double figures and West Central beat Gillespie 58-36 Dec. 10 in Winchester.
The Cougars led 11-5 after one quarter and 36-17 at halftime.
Ford scored 16 points to lead the winners. Vortman scored 13 points, and Hamilton scored 11.
Clevenger scored seven points, and Eddinger scored three. Charlie Smith, Gabe Howard, Blayne Sidwell and Eli Crain each scored two points.
