Braylee Littig made a three-point basket with two minutes remaining in the game, and West Central beat Triopia 43-38 in the championship game of the Lady Spartan Classic Jan.17 in White Hall.
Triopia jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter.
Little had steal and scored to start a 7-0 run. Littig made a three-point basket, and Jackie Lashmett scored at the buzzer as the Cougars trailed 12-9 after one quarter.
West Central outscored Triopia 11-6 in the second quarter and led 20-18 at halftime.
Paisley Sturtevant made a three-point basket, and Sofie Grubb scored inside as the Cougars took the lead.
Sturtevant and Little both made three-point baskets in the third quarter. Evynn Gregory grabbed an offensive rebound and scored at the buzzer, and the Cougars led 33-25 after three quarters.
Littig’s three gave the Cougars some breathing room as the held off the Trojans. Little made four straight free throws to seal the championship.
Little and Sturtevant both were selected to the all-tournament team.
Little scored 17 points to lead the Cougars.
Sturtevant scored seven points. Gregory and Littig both scored six points. Lashmett scored five points, and Grubb scored two.
Three players scored in double figures, and West Central beat Calhoun 52-37 In the semifinals.
West Central jumped out to a 16-6 after one quarter and led 30-12 at halftime. They led 40-23 after three quarters.
Grubb scored 14 points to lead the winners. Gregory scored 11, and Little scored 10.
Adrienne Kaufmann scored seven points, and Sturtevant scored six. Lashmett scored two points.
Little and Sturtevant combined to score 28 points, and the Cougars beat North Greene 52-27 in the first round.
The Cougars led 14-5 after one quarter and 30-15 at halftime. West Central outscored North Greene 18-4 in the third quarter.
Little scored 16 points to lead West Central, and Sturtevant scored 12.
Kaufmann scored eight points, and Lashmett scored six. Gregory scored five points, and Littig scored four. Grubb scored two points.
