Four players scored in double figures as West Central beat Western 67-51 in boys’ basketball Jan. 24 in Kinderhook.
The Cougars led 41-33 late in the third quarter before Blayne Sidwell scored five points in the final 15 seconds.
Sidwell made a three-point basket with 15 seconds remaining and made steal and scored with 8 seconds remaining. West Central led 46-33 after three quarters.
West Central made 11 of 12 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter. They went 24-for-31 from the free throw line in the game.
Western led 10-6 after one quarter but scored the first eight points of the second. Gabe Howard scored to start the quarter, and Cooper Eddinger made one of two free throws.
Nick Hamilton made two free throws after a Western player was called for a technical foul. He made a three-point on the ensuing possession, and the Cougars led 14-10. They never trailed again.
The Cougars outscored Western 25-6 in the second quarter and led 31-16 at halftime. They made 11 of free 15 free throw attempts in the quarter.
Hamilton scored 21 points, including 16 in the second quarter, to lead the Cougars. He went 11-for-12 from the free throw attempts in the game.
Sidwell scored 15 points. Eddinger scored 11 points, and Blaine Vortman scored 10. Howard and Landon Wahl each scored four points.
West Central won the junior varsity game 42-32.
Daxton Littig scored 14 points to lead West Central. Curtis Renner scored nine points and Thrice Kirkpatrick scored six. Eli Crain and Landon McDaniles each scored four points. Jack Little scored three points, and Emerson Little scored two.
Triopia scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter and beat West Central 48-32 Jan. 23 in Bluffs.
The game was tied at 28 after three quarters, but Triopia outscored scored the Cougars 20-4 in the fourth. West Central did not made a field goal and did not score until Eddinger made a free throw with 3:11 remained in the game.
Eddinger scored 10 points to lead the Cougars. Vortman scored nine points, and Hamilton scored seven. Sidwell scored four points and Howard scored two.
The Cougars won the junior varsity game 52-38.
Wahl, Kirkpatrick and Littig each scored 10 points for West Central. Emerson Little scored five points. Renner, McDaniles and Brody BlLevin each scored four points. Crain scored three points, and Cole Hutton scored two.
