North Mac made two free throws with 23 seconds remaining and held on to beat West Central 52-49 in boys’ basketball Jan. 27 at Bluffs.
West Central trailed 45-29 early in the fourth quarter and got within one point late in the game.
Cooper Eddinger scored with 4:53 remaining in the game as the Cougars got within 45-37. Gabe Howard converted a three-point play, and West Central trailed just 47-44 with 1:52 remaining.
Blaine Vortman grabbed an offensive rebound and scored with 37 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to one point, 50-49.
North Mac made two free throws and extended the lead to three points. West Central missed two three-point shot attempts in the final seconds.
Eddinger scored 21 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter. Vortman scored 13 points.
Howard scored seven points, and Nick Hamilton scored five. Landon Wahl scored three points.
West Central won the junior varsity game 60-24.
Thrice Kirkpatrick scored 14 points, and Curtis Renner scored 10 to lead West Central. Landon Wahl and Daxton Littig each scored nine points. Emerson Little scored six points. Brody Blevins and Eli Crain each scored four points. Nolan Jackson scored two points, and Brayden Newingham scored one.
West Central scored just one point in the first quarter and lost 47-29 at Auburn Jan.29.
The Cougars trailed 11-1 after one quarter and 21-12 at halftime.
They got within 23-17 in the third quarter but scored the next eight points.
Hamilton scored 11 points to lead the Cougars. Blayne SIdwell scored eight. Eddinger and Vortman each scored three points. Kirkpatrick scored two points. Howard and Charlie Smith each scored one point.
Auburn won the junior varsity game 39-35.
Wahl scored 10 points for West Central. Little scored nine points, and Kirkpatrick scored eight. Renner scored four points, and Crain scored two. Blevins and Littig each scored one point.
Athens scored 19 fourth quarter points and beat West Central 48-37 Jan. 31 at Athens.
West Central trailed 29-26 after three quarters and 31-28 after Howard scored with 7 minutes remaining.
Athens went on a 12-4 run and led 43-32 with 1:21 remaining in the game.
Hamilton scored 11 points, and Vortman scored 10 for the West Central.
Sidwell scored nine points. Eddinger scored four points, and Howard scored three.
Athens won the junior varsity game 48-43.
Renner scored 16 points for the Cougars, and Little scored 10. Kirkpatrick scored nine points. Blevins, Crain, Littig and Jack Little each scored two points.
