A Greene County man has been sentenced to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following his convictions on multiple counts of Child Pornography.
According to Greene County States Attorney Craig M. Grummel, Nichols A. Williams, 33, entered a plea of guilty in Greene County Circuit Court to three counts of Child Pornography, which are Class 2 Felonies.
On Feb. 20, the Court imposed consecutive sentences of five years on Count 1, five years on Count 2 and four years on Count 3, for an aggregate sentence of 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The charges stemmed from the defendant’s knowing possession of multiple video depictions of minors under the age of 13 engaged in sexual acts, which were discovered during the course of a criminal investigation.
Grummel thanked the investigators and agencies who worked diligently to bring this case to a successful conclusion.
“These cases require meticulous digital forensic work and a steadfast commitment to protecting children,” he said. “I want to specifically thank Special Investigator Larry Ryburn of the Office of the Illinois Attorney General for his leadership and expertise in this investigation, along with the team that assisted him. Their work was instrumental in holding this offender accountable.”
Grummel further emphasized the importance of aggressively prosecuting crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children.
“The possession and distribution of child pornography fuels the abuse of innocent victims,” he said. “Greene County will continue to work with our law enforcement partners at every level to investigate and prosecute these offenses to the fullest extent of the law.”
This case was prosecuted by the Greene County States’s Attorney’s Office with the Honorable Allison Lorton presiding over the proceedings.
