Nicholas K. Bridgewater, 42, has been sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following his conviction for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, a Class 3 Felony.
Greene County States Attorney Craig M. Grummel said Bridgewater previously entered a plea of guilty to knowingly possessing less than five grams of a substance containing methamphetamine.
The Honorable Allison Lorton imposed the sentence on Feb. 20. Bridgewater was awarded credit for time served and was recommended for substance abuse treatment programming while in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Grummel emphasized that this sentence reflects both the seriousness of the offense and the defendant’s long history of criminal conduct.
“Mr. Bridgewater’s sentence is the product of decades of criminal behavior and repeated contacts with law enforcement,” Grummel said. “Greene County citizens deserve communities free from the ongoing disruptions caused by chronic drug offenders. This sentence holds the defendant accountable while also providing and opportunity for treatment within the Department of Corrections.”
Grummel extended a special thank you to the Roodhouse Police Department for their work on this case and for their continued efforts over many years of addressing Bridgewater’s criminal activity.
Appreciation is also extended to the many local law enforcement agencies throughout Greene County that have had repeated involvement with the defendant over the course of his criminal history.
“The collaborative work of our local agencies is critical in addressing repeat offenders and protecting public safety,” Grummel said. “Their persistence and professionalism ensure that individuals who continue to violate the law are brought before the court.”
Grummel said this case underscores the Greene County State’s Attorney’s Office’s commitment to aggressively prosecuting drug offenses and working alongside local law enforcement to reduce the impact of illegal narcotics in our communities.
