An expansion program has been launched at the garage of Charles Siebenmann on North State Street. The improvements will include the enlarging of display, shop and parts rooms and redecoration of the entire interior. The large room occupied by the Siebenmann and Rhine grocery department was remodeled to give space for a show room for Dodge new and rebuilt cars. This section of the establishment will be prettily decorated in white with cherry finish. The frontage of this room will be 80 feet. In the rear is located a large and uptodate parts room, equipped with practically every article for the building of a Dodge Brothers car. Still farther in the rear are located the large work shop and storage room. Mr. Siebenmann’s success in the garage business since coming to Jerseyville from Calhoun County as a the Dodge Brothers dealers for Jersey and Calhoun Counties seven years ago has been remarkable. A very substantial business has been built up in that length of time, both in the sale of cars and of accessories. He was one of the few representatives to be placed on the Dodge Brothers’ roll of honor at a recent dealers’ convention in Detroit in recognition of his sales record for 1925.

Rep. Sid Simpson advises the News that a resolution has been passed by the full committee of House Public Works in COngress calling for the dredging landings at the Golden Eagle, Deer Plain and West Point ferries in Calhoun. Calhoun County officials have been trying to get the U.S. Engineers to remove sand bars formed at these ferry landings but the engineers have said individuals would benefit and they had no authority to perform the project. Rep. Simpson points out that heavy traffic crosses these ferries and that there is only one bridge out of the county and these are the only outlets to the St. Louis area. The cost to dredge is estimated at $5,000 and if this work is not done operations may have to stop. Sid adds a bridge at the south end of the county is badly needed but the ferries should be kept operating now.

The Hardin Lions Club is sponsoring a dinner at the Barefoot with the proceeds to go for a project for community use. The Lions have been considering the tennis court project for some time. It is visualized as a first step to provide needed recreational facilities for the area within Unit 40, the area served by the club. While the project’s success will require the cooperation and assistance of other groups, the Lions have made a definite commitment to proceed and to undertake the task of raising the necessary funds.

Illinois Department of Transportation workers were busy Monday removing debris from various underpasses throughout the county. The recent rain and wind made driving dangerous with water standing on the pavement and forceful winds blowing rain and obstructing visibility. The Illinois River stage in Hardin on Tuesday morning was 28.2 (3.2 above flood stage) with the river continuing to rise to a predicted 28.7 by March 2.
