Calhoun Sheriff extradites Georgia man

TIMOTHY A. WHITAKER
On February 28th 2026, following an exhaustive investigation and intensive extradition process; Law Enforcement Officials with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office travelled to Augusta, GA to apprehend Timothy R Whitaker, aged 57, of Augusta, GA for the following offenses:
■ Theft ($10,000.00 – $100,000),
■ Wire Fraud.
This investigation began on June 12th 2025, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office received a Complaint of Theft and Wire-Fraud, in excess of $20,000.00. The reporting party alleged they had paid for a piece of construction equipment from an online company and never received shipment.
Corporal Nicholas McCall with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office began conducting a thorough investigation to identify the suspect responsible. Corporal McCall’s investigation included the execution of multiple Court Authorized Search Warrants for banking institutions, cellular companies and surveillance footage.
On August 8th 2025, the Calhoun County State’s Attorney Office filed a Warrant of Arrest for Whitaker.
On December 21st 2025, Whitaker was apprehended by the Richmond County (GA) Sheriff’s Office and taken into custody and held on the aforementioned warrant.
The Calhoun County State’s Attorney’s Office conducted extensive work in attempting to extradite Whitaker for prosecution in Calhoun County, Illinois.
On March 1st 2026, Deputies with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office completed the transport back from Augusta, GA, and transported Whitaker to the Pike County Jail, where he is currently held, awaiting further court appearance.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Richmond County (GA) Sheriff’s Office, and the Calhoun County State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this apprehension and extradition of this subject.
Sheriff Hardin would like to further acknowledge the dedication shown by Corporal Nic McCall. Without Corporal McCall’s diligent, skilled and thorough investigation, this investigation would likely have never been solved.
