Members of Nancy Ross Chapter DAR held an Awards Ceremony on Sunday, April 19, at the Calvary Baptist Church. Jane Rene’ Bradshaw was recognized for getting first place Grade 12 Poetry Category from Illinois State Organization NSDAR. The theme this year was “Celebrating 250 Years of Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness: Happy Birthday, America! 1776-2026”. She recited her poem for the group. She is a member of the DAR Junior American Citizens, usually called JAC, which coordinates with the Pittsfield High School History Club.
The following high school seniors received the DAR Good Citizen Award:

These students’ application required answering various questions pertaining to their activities and future plans, as well as two recommendation letters. They also wrote an essay for a limit of two hours in the presence of a school staff member using no resources and using the prompt: “Our nation will celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America on July 4, 2026. Describe how the characteristics of a good citizen help to renew and strengthen the democracy achieved by the Patriots of the American Revolution.” Jane Bradshaw won first place and her application was forwarded to the district level. Emoree Stauffer won second place. Each student received a check from the chapter.
Refreshments were enjoyed after the ceremony by winners, their family members and guests as well as the chapter members.
