Classrooms at the Carrollton High School will be getting new doors at the start of the 2026-27 school year after an addendum was approved at the May meeting to the Health Life Safety amendment approved by the Illinois State Board of Education at a previous meeting.
“We had already secured the funds for the project with a bond that we closed on last month,” Superintendent Jason Bauer said. “The total for the addition of these classroom doors comes to approximately $117,929.”
This is for all of the classroom doors in the high school, including two sets of double doors, one set leading into the library and the other set that leads into the computer lab.
Following a brief executive session, the board approved a 4.9 percent increase for non-union support staff. Bauer explained why the increase was more than the typical 3 percent yearly increase.
“Our Unit Office had a hard freeze one year so we have kind of been making up for that over the last few years,” he said.
The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Union after creating an assistant FFA advisor stipend for $290 for the second ag teacher coming in next year.
“What we had to do when the industrial arts teacher resigned, we posted for both Industrial Arts and Ag and we found someone who had the Ag licensure,” Bauer said. “So, then we kind of just changed the classes to meet the state requirements. We are still offering the same classes – just under the Ag umbrella. It’s a pretty common thing to do for schools that can’t find an industrial arts teacher that is licensed because there aren’t many colleges that even offer the program anymore.”
The board approved to increase the fee for student and teacher lunches. The fee for student lunches will go up 10 cents and teacher lunches will go up 15 cents.
Because Carrollton takes part in the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program, every student is allowed to eat breakfast and lunch for free. This program is for districts with high poverty rates and students are eligible for the program without the need for the school to collect individual applications.
Bauer was asked why, then, was the need to increase the fee if every student eats for free. He said in case they want to purchase a second lunch.
