A community effort of volunteers, law enforcement and the Griggsville-North Pike Fire Department spent approximately four hours looking for a missing autistic teen. The boy had been missing for a hour before law enforcement was called. The call reporting him missing was received at 5:40 p.m.
Scores of volunteers combed the city of Griggsville, noting that the boy had escaped before and liked to hide in vacant houses, sheds and bushes.
He was discovered at 9:11 p.m. in a vacant house near his own residence.
With the assistance of the Pittsfield Police K-9 Unit, The Griggsville Fire Department Search and Rescue, the North Pike Search and Rescue, Survival Flight, The Adams County Emergency Management Agency Search and Rescue, John Kroechel’s K-9 Search Team, Pike County EMS and numerous members of the community.
“The juvenile was thirsty but unharmed and was taken to Illini Community Hospital for evaluation,” David Greenwood, Pike County Sheriff, said. “Thank you to everyone who came out to assist on locating this young man. It is always impressive to me, when an incident like this occurs, how everyone in these small communities come together to help. Griggsville and its partners should be proud.”
