The Jersey County Board held their regular meeting last Tuesday, Aug. 12.
During the meeting, the board accepted a bid from Stutz Excavating in the amount of $17,600 for the demolition of the house located at 207 W. Exchange Street to be paid out of public safety funds. It was noted that the bid included asbestos removal, and that it was recommended by the state’s attorney to accept the bid.
A bid for two water heaters at the county jail was also approved. It was stated that there was an emergency repair needed for the water heater, and the second one is expected to go out at any time.
“Usually we put this out for a 30-day bid, but given that we have a jail inspection coming up and that this could go out at any time, it is an emergency repair,” Vice-Chairman Mark Wagner stated.
Wagner said the Sheriff contacted three local plumbers for bids and the only one that returned with a bid was Loellke Plumbing in the amount $44,270.
The board also approved a resolution authorizing an amendment to the fiscal year 24-25 budget regarding money that was taken out of the Sheriff’s fund and needed to be put back in the auto purchase line. The amount was for approximately $8,000.
The board also approved two petitions for aid and a resolution to appropriate motor fuel tax funds during the Road and Bridge Committee report.
One petition for aid was for West County Road in English Township for approximately $11,000. The second was for aid on Range Line Road in Ruyle Township for approximately $23,000. Each are to be split evenly between the county and township.
The appropriation for motor fuel tax funds will be used for the improvements of Otterville Road from IL 16 to Main Street in Otterville for approximately $451,000. It was noted that originally, the county’s share of the project was paid using federal aid matching funds and now motor fuel tax money can be used.
In other business, the board approved a recommendation to retain Derek Russell as interim Floodplain Administrator, heard an update on last month’s storm from Jerseyville Fire Chief Keith Norman, approved previous meeting minutes and approved bills in the amount of $213,808.89.
The Jersey County Board will meet again on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m.
