The weather was very cold over the weekend with the temperature in single digits. Snow is in the forecast for Calhoun County and the surrounding area. The snow did come early in the evening on Saturday; the roads were very slick. On Saturday, Dec. 13 The Batchtown Woman’s Club started their day by making Christmas Baskets for the shut-ins, and those who had lost a loved one during the 2025 year. A Christmas Brunch was enjoyed among the members. Before they put the fruit and cookies in the Christmas Bags to be delivered to their homes. Everyone enjoyed the day.
The students at St. Norberts School had a live Nativity Presentation at St. Norberts School on Dec. 8. This custom was originally started by St. Francis of Assisi, and his friars, and has continued throughout the ages. St. Mary’s School Christmas Program will be Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. Everyone is welcome.
Santa Claus is coming to Batchtown Sunday evening, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Town Building. We hope to see all the little boys and girls. Santa will have a treat for you!
The Christmas Mass schedule is Dec. 24, 4 p.m. at St. Mary’s in Brussels, Dec.24. 6 p.m. at St. Anselm’s, Kempsville, Dec.24, Midnight St. Joseph’s, Meppen, Dec.25, 8 a.m. at St. Barbara’s Batchtown, 9:30 a.m.at St. Norbert’s, Hardin, everyone is welcome.
The Cornerstone Church in Batchtown will have a Christmas Eve Eve Service on Thursday, Dec. 23, at 7 p.m. followed by refreshments afterwards.
They also they also have a Bible Class every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome at all services.
The Calhoun Entertainment Company Christmas Concert is Sunday, Dec. 20 at the Presbyterian Church in Hardin at 7 p.m. Come and enjoy the Christmas Music followed by refreshments.
Kenny and Bette Eilerman enjoyed their visit with their grandsons, Aiden Abbott, and Asher Sat. morning. They are the children of Greg and Lauren Eilerman.
Bernie and Robin Hillen, and Mary Ann Bailey watched the Junior High girls’ basketball game at Assumption, Ill. on Dec. 10. The Calhoun warriors were defeated, but everyone is proud of the team. They had a very good season.
North Greene Spartan Classic Tournament was held at Greenfield the Coach was Casey Longnecker.
The Calhoun High School State scholars were Emma Rose’s daughter of Brad and Anna Rose, Hannah Klaas daughter of Greg, and LeaAnn Klaas, and Jacob Zipprich, son of Jacob, and Missy Zipprich.
Birthday greetings to Bernard Johnes who celebrated his birthday on Sat., Dec. 13. Happy birthday and have a wonderful year.
Lisa Vogel is getting ready for Christmas. Lisa is sending Christmas cards, making a wreath for their door, and getting ready for the Christmas dinner for their children, grandchildren, and friends who are coming to visit. Wayne and Lisa are planning a trip to Florida after Christmas. They are going to visit her father at his home for a few days and are going to paint his home inside and outside while there. They will also visit relatives who live near her dad in Florida.
Wayne and Lisa Vogel’s son, John Paul, is going on a trip to Italy and Turkey from Dec 27 to Jan.7. He has a friend that was an exchange student when they were in school together who will meet him in Italy and show him around the country. They will travel to several well-known attractions including Rome, and the Vatican. It is a chance of a lifetime!
Terry Presley attended the Berg family Christmas Saturday, Dec. 13, at Pere Marquet Park. She enjoyed being with her family for their Christmas get together
For those in wintry snowy areas, add the following items to your emergency kit. A bag of sand to help with traction (or bag of non-clumping cat litter), collapsible or folding snow shovel, blanket, tire chains and tow strap, hand warmers, winter boots, sleeping bag for long trips. (Old Farmer’s Almanac (2023).
The St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Pantry and Clothing Store is open every Wednesday, but will be closed Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and New Years Eve, Dec. 31.
