As summer continues, and temperatures hit the upper 80s/low 90s, here are a few core strategies to staying cooler on these hot days: Stay Hydrated – Women need eleven cups/day, and men need fifteen cups/day. Cold water is best; avoid alcohol and caffeine as these worsen dehydration. Use Fans Correctly – Fans help only when they move heat away from your skin. If the air is hot, wet your skin first to boost evaporative cooling. Wear the Right Fabrics – Cotton and linen are breathable and have great airflow. Light colors and loose fits reflect heat and improve airflow. Cool your Pulse Points – For fast relief, apply cold to wrists, neck, inside elbows and behind knees and tops of feet. Cooling these areas lowers blood temperature and helps your whole body cool down. (Harvard Health and www.scienceinsights.org) Don’t risk becoming overheated this summer!
