Upper 80’s the past week and high humidity, thankfully a nice shower of rain near the end of the week of an inch and a half. Crops, gardens and lawns surely needed that. Predictions are temperatures in the low 90’s for this week. Air conditioners are getting a good work out!
Congratulations to Bernie Snyders of Golden Eagle who celebrated his birthday recently. His wife, Gloria, hosted a wonderful brunch in his honor with all the family present. Later in the day everyone spent the afternoon with Joe and Tammi Snyders for a delicious fish fry, with fish provided by their son Colton, lots of side dishes and a birthday cake. The younger generation in attendance enjoyed the swimming pool while the seniors observed and visited. Many more blessed years Bernie.

On Saturday evening Clark Schulze was pleasantly surprised on his 65th Birthday at the Brussels American Legion Hall. His daughter and husband Delaney and Jake Schumacher and baby girl had sent out a text message to family and friends to let others know of this occasion. They informed Clark it was his Class Reunion, so he definitely was surprised when he arrived. A delicious buffet meal was enjoyed by those in attendance, along with two large birthday sheet cakes. Fifteen of his classmates and their spouses were present to help Clark celebrate. Many more happy ones Clark!

John, Julie and Caleb Carnes of Edwardsville visited both her dad Francis Toppmeyer and me on Sunday afternoon. John was busy picking up all sizes of tree limbs brought down by the wind that accompanied the rain on Friday night. He also sprayed the 10 plus rose bushes and the tomato plants which the Japanese beetles had invaded, plus various other jobs around the place. Julie meanwhile helped her dad with laundry, meals for the week ahead and other household jobs. That evening the Carnes family treated Francis and I to dinner at Kinder’s Restaurant in Golden Eagle. Thanks so very much to them.

PRAYER FOR OUR NATION’S LEADERS
Mighty God. Graciously look upon Your servants who administer the laws of our nation and grant them wisdom and insight as they govern. May we be guarded and directed in righteousness, discernment and unity. May our leaders govern with love for Your people, service for our nation and deep regard and respect for You. We pray all of this in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen
