Were you able to attend the “America 250 Celebration – Pike County, IL” on the courthouse lawn this past Friday evening? So much hard work by so many and it showed! I, myself, learned how cannons were shot and the history behind TAPS. Tons of history to soak in and these were only a few of the things showcased at this event. Kudos to all who played a part in this historical celebration – it was much appreciated by all of those in attendance! Happy 250th Birthday, America!
The courthouse lawn will be busy again this weekend! “Better Together – A Community Gathering” will take place on the south side of the square on July 10th and 11th from 7 -10 p.m. Friday night will be more of a youth-focused event, and Saturday will be a community gathering for all ages. The Better Together weekend will showcase incredible music by Perry Case and Cole Howard and Brothers. Bring a friend or two, a chair or blanket and plan for a lot of fun!

National Sugar Cookie Day is TOMORROW! Did you have any idea this was a recognized day in the U.S.? According to Co-Pilot, sugar cookies trace back to the 1700s in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, where German Protestant settlers created the original “Nazareth Cookie,” a round, crumbly, buttery cookie that became a regional staple. Over time, the recipe spread across the U.S., eventually inspiring the modern sugar cookie and the holiday celebrating it.
Now that July 4th festivities are behind us, it’s a good time to do a mental reset. Enjoy all our many freedoms and try to remember these things as we continue through the summer months: “Walking is a reset. Sunlight is a reset. Being kind is a reset. Meditating is a reset. Slowing down is a reset. Hugging someone is a reset. Grounding in grass is a reset. Watching the sunset is a reset. Taking deep breaths is a reset. Spending time in nature is a reset.” (Mariana Wright Wellness)
Enjoy a sugar cookie tomorrow!
