The Eleventh Annual Breakfast with St. Nick at the North Pike Firehouse in Perry is this Saturday (12/20) from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Children will have a chance to tell St. Nick their Christmas wishes, make crafts, eat breakfast, play games and so much more. The North Pole Gift Shop will be open. Items under five dollars will be available for children to purchase as Christmas gifts for loved ones. A volunteer will be available to help kids shop and wrap their purchases. Admission to breakfast is a non-perishable food item to be donated to the community Christmas baskets. This event is sponsored by the Ladies of North Pike in cooperation with PACE.
“Christmas at the Fairgrounds” will take place Saturday (12/20) from 5:30 p.m.-7:30p.m. Enjoy the glow of the big Christmas tree at the Western Illinois Fairgrounds. A pulled pork dinner (free-will offering) will be available, Santa photos, hot chocolate and cookies. Be sure to head to the fairgrounds Saturday!
The Pittsfield First Christian Church Christmas Cantata will be this Sunday at 5p.m.. This will be a lovely way to get in the Christmas spirit!\The 103rd Community Christmas Tree will be Dec. 24th in the Griggsville-Perry High School gymnasium beginning at 5 p.m. All children through fourth grade will receive a gift. Be ready to hear special music, a reading of Twas the Night Before Christmas, and visit Santa Claus and a special guest!
The Griggsville Christian Church will host a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. The Christmas Story will be presented in verse and song and “Happy Birthday, Jesus” cake will be served. All are sincerely invited and encouraged to attend. Candles will be provided.
“Perhaps it wasn’t just a coincidence that Jesus was born in a manger. It’s not like He didn’t know the Inn would be full. But, why a manger? Perhaps it’s because a manger isn’t intimidating. It’s humble. So, so very humble. A manger, unlike a King’s palace or a King’s throne, is accessible to anyone. You can freely walk to it. No blockades. No guards. No fees. It’s approachable. Of course, this wasn’t a coincidence. Nothing about God’s plan is. If He wanted to be born in the nicest five-star hotel, in the most beautiful castle or palace, in the most gorgeous place, He would have. But from birth, He’s been showing us something: He wants all of us…literally every single one of us. And He made it oh so easy to get to Him. The message of Christ gets convoluted and confused sometimes. But the manger? It was no coincidence. It’s pretty simple. He is whispering, “Come to me.” And He made a way so we could. All of us. No one excluded. The manger represents a truth about Christ: He will welcome you, as you are, but you won’t leave there the same.”
