Sympathy goes out to the family of Debbie Fitzpatrick, sister of Penny Garner, Darold Garner, and the late Sharon Straus. Debbie passed away on Sunday, January 18th.
Big River Band schedule:
This Saturday, Jan. 24 — The Big River Band will be at the Pike County Senior Center in Pittsfield with the show starting at 6:30 p.m. Concession stand and big dance floor available.
Friday, Feb. 13 — The Big River Band will be playing in Bowling Green, Missouri, at Merna’s Kitchen, 214 West Church Street, starting at 5:30 that evening. Menu choices for that evening are prime rib, sea bass, a shrimp main dish, a chicken main entree, and some sort of pasta dish plus sides. To be able to order food accordingly, Reservations are a must and should be made by calling 1-573-470-1113 by Friday, Feb. 6.
Saturday, Feb. 14 — The Big River Band will be at the Courtyard Cafe with the show starting at 6 p.m. I know Paul and Patty will have something very special on the menu for Valentine’s Day.
Bugg’s Family Opry schedule:
This Friday, Jan. 23 — The Buggs’ Family Opry, with special guest Simon Webb, will be in Pearl with the show starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $10.
Do Not Forget, if the weather gets bad and/or iffy, either listen to 97.5 or 102 on the radio, or check on Facebook and look on either BIG RIVER BAND or Polly Bugg or Jamie Niffen or myself Wyvetta Davis, or give someone a call, including me, at the number above to make sure the Shows will be happening.
Jamie and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary and my birthday (age???) Tuesday by eating a meal at Fiddlestix in Hannibal. Several people have asked us how we got together with him being from Bowling Green, Missouri, and I’m from New Salem, Illinois. In March 2024, I started a group called Single Seniors, and I had problems trying to find a few men to join this group that had several women. One day I was looking through my friends on Facebook and saw Larry Collins on there and thought I’ll look through his friends and see who he has on there. I saw Jamie who was widowed and wondered if he’d be interested in attending Single Seniors. I contacted Larry to inquire about Jamie…if he would be a good guy to add to our group and if he was a nice man. Larry said yes on both counts (thanks again, Larry), so I proceeded to send Jamie a message. Two weeks went by before he answered. (Thanks to his daughter Mary for encouraging him to do so). In April, I suggested that a few of us were going to go to Pearl to watch and listen to the Buggs’ Family Opry, and maybe he would want to meet us there. And he did, and thoroughly loved the show and enjoyed being with us. Then in May, Jamie came to our Single Seniors at the Watts Up in Nebo where several of us shared a meal and a conversation. The following Tuesday he and I both attended the dance in Hannibal at the Armory, and had a nice time. And the rest is history.
By the way, Single Seniors, now called Single Seniors + One, is still going strong. And now Jamie and I both do the planning for each month. If you are interested in joining our “Meet, Greet, and Eat” once a month get together times, just give me a call at 1-217-320-8438. This is for both women and men, must be 55+, single either by choice or life, able to pay for your own meal and transportation, and be considerate to everyone and “Share” conversations.
Saturday afternoon, Jan. 17, found the Big River Band doing a concert for family and friends at the Eastside Healthcare facility in Pittsfield for Bev Grammar’s birthday from 2-4 p.m. The band appreciated being asked to participate in this, and had a good time, and I believe, so did everyone else.
