Cougars rally in fourth for win over North Greene

West Central scored the last eight points of the game and beat North Greene 51-44 in boys’ basketball Feb. 13 at White Hall.
The Cougars (11-16) led 37-26 after three quarters. Carson Clevenger made a free throw with 7:48 remaining in the game, and West Central led 38-26.
North Greene scored 12 straight and tied the game at 38. Blaine Vortman made a free to stop the run, but North Greene scored and led 40-39. The lead changed five more times in the fourth quarter.
Nick Hamilton made a three-point basket and give West Central the lead for good at 46-44 with 1:13 remaining in the game.
Hamilton made two free throws with 42.9 seconds remaining. Vortman made three free throws in the final 17.3 seconds to seal the win.
Cooper Eddinger made two free throws, Vortman scored twice after grabbing offensive rebounds, and Blayne Sidwell made two free throws as the Cougars took an 8-2 lead after one quarter.
North Greene came back and led 19-17 in the second quarter. Clevenger scored with 31 seconds remaining, and the game was tied 19-all at halftime.
Hamilton made a three-point to start a 12-2 run in the third quarter. Landon Wahl made a three-point and the Cougars led 35-24 with 54 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Eddinger scored 13 points, including 11 in the first half, to lead West Central. Hamilton scored 12 points with all of the them coming in the second half. Vortman scored 12 points, including eight in the fourth quarter.
Sidwell scored six points, and Clevenger scored five. Wahl scored three points.
Eleven players scored, and West Central won the junior varsity game 58-27.
Wahl scored 14 points, and Jack Little scored 12 to lead the Cougars.
Thrice Kirkpatrick scored eight points, and Eli Crain scored seven. Emerson Little, Nolan Jackson and Daxton Littig each scored three points. Brody Blevins, Cole Hutton, Landon McDaniles and Curtis Renner each scored two points.
Roxana scored 29 points in the first quarter and beat West Central 85-50 Feb. 14 at Bluffs.
Sidwell and Vortman each scored nine points to lead West Central. Hamilton and Eddinger each scored seven points.
Ryker Ford, who has been out since suffering an ACL injury at the Waverly Holiday Tournament, played and scored five points. Leighton Smith also scored five points.
Charlie Smith scored four points. Crain and Gabe Howard each scored two points.
Roxana won the junior varsity game 58-53.
Kirkpatrick scored 25 points to lead West Central. Crain scored eight points, and Emerson Little scored seven. Wahl and Littig each scored six points. Jack Little scored one point.
