The Jersey County Board held its reorganization meeting last Thursday, Dec. 1, following the swearing in of the new board members.
The meeting began with appointing a new chairman of the board. Republican Gary Krueger (District 4) was the only nominee and was voted into the position. Former Chairman Democrat Don Little (District 4) was not re-elected to the board. Appointed to the position of vice-chairman was Republican Mark Wagner (District 3).
The board members then drew lots to determine who will get 2-year terms and who will get 4-year terms. The process began with drawing cards to see which districts would have two members with 4-year terms and one with a 2-year term and which districts would have two members with 2-year terms and one with a 4-year term.
Districts 3 and 4 were drawn first, as the districts that will have two members with 4-year terms and one with a two-year term. Districts 1 and 2 were left so they will each have two members with 2-year terms and one member with a 4-year term.
The board members then drew ping-pong balls from a basket which had either a number 2 or a number 4 written on them, to determine the term they would serve.
Serving the 4-year term in District 1 is Republican David Crone and serving the 2-year terms are Republicans Kenneth Grizzle and Jarrod Hayes.
Serving the 4-year term in District 2 is Republican Alan Womack and serving the 2-year terms are Democrat Sandy Hefner and Republican Ben Heitzig.
Serving the 4-year terms in District 3 are Republicans Kara Ontis and Jeremy Beasley and serving the 2-year term is Republican Wagner.
Serving the 4-year terms in District 4 are Republicans Sheila Beers and Krueger and serving the 2-year term is Republican Edward Koenig.
The Jersey County Board meets on the second Tuesday of the month. They are scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m.
