The Jerseyville City Council convened on Tuesday, July 25, to address a concise agenda. Among the topics discussed were various property zoning requests, budget allocations for the upcoming fiscal year, and the approval of resolutions.
The meeting commenced with a significant proposal by petitioner Lucky Johnson. Johnson sought council approval to rezone the property at 508 East Exchange St., Jerseyville. This request sparked a thoughtful discussion among council members who were curious about the previous history of Johnson’s attempts to petition his proposal. The council denied the proposal at this time.
Following this, the council turned its attention to financial matters, discussing and potentially approving the certified estimate of revenues for the upcoming fiscal year, FY 23-24. The allocation of funds for various city projects and initiatives is an essential aspect of Jerseyville’s governance, and careful consideration was given to this matter. The motion was accepted and passed.
Additionally, the council addressed the filing of the FY 23-24 appropriations ordinance after holding a public hearing on July 25, 2023, at 5:45 p.m. This allowed community members to voice their opinions and concerns regarding the budget allocation. The motion was passed with little issue.
Another significant item on the agenda was a resolution authorizing the sale of surplus property owned by the city, as per 65 ILCS 5/11-76-4.1, appraisal method. The lots in question, 63 and 64 in Union Addition, commonly known as 506 and 508 Easton Avenue, Jerseyville, IL, were subject to discussion and potential approval. After a short discussion, the issue was passed and accepted.
The meeting also considered AT&T Mobility’s petition to rezone the property at 200 South Washington Street from a B-2 classification to an M-2 with a special use permit for a telecommunications tower. The council voted to approve the motion. This holds positive implications for the city’s communication infrastructure.
Lastly, the council addressed approving the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) motor fuel tax closeout for the 2022-2023 fiscal year. This is important for the city’s transportation infrastructure and funding allocation. The council easily accepted this motion, and the meeting was called to adjournment after a short while.
