The Jersey County Historical Society would like to invite everyone to join us for a one-room school reunion on the lawn of the Lone Star School Saturday, June 8, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The school is located behind the Cheney House at 601 N. State St., Jerseyville.
Everyone is welcome to attend and encouraged to bring lawn chairs, family, and friends. Drinks and cookies will be provided.
The Lone Star School was built in 1877 and was one of more than 70-plus one-room schools that once dotted the landscape of Jersey County.
The Lone Star School closed in 1952 and was later purchased by Clifton and Josie Schudel. In 2001, Bill and Pasty Schudel Halemeyer donated the school to the Historical Society, and it was moved to its present location in 2003.
The school will be open for tour. It includes many of its original contents, including the oil lamps, writing canvas (the school was built before blackboards became commonplace), school library, and desks.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors.
