The City of Grafton took the time to recognize a handful of individuals for their work in the community at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 18.
Cody Alger, with the IDNR, was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for his work with the tri-annual Duck Blind Draw.
Alderman Jim Spencer thanked Alger for all of his help ensuring the busy day was a great success.
“We had approximately 500 maybe close to 600 people that participated in this. Our friend here saved our bacon in helping set up the tent and figuring out how it went up. So thank you very much, greatly appreciate that. It was a great success,” Spencer said.
Alger thanked everyone for the recognition and said there was positive feedback from this year’s draw.
“I’d like to thank everybody,” he said. “We did get positive feedback. The way it went, the location, traffic, and everything. I think customers were pretty happy. I know a quite few people were happy that they’re from Jersey and Calhoun and not driving all the way down to Alton to have the event. So we got nothing but positive feedback. I appreciate everything that the city did to facilitate this so we hope that in the future we’ll start having them here every year.”
Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to the Stars and Stripes Commission, whose members are working together to support the National Memorial of Military Ascent.
Mayor Mike Morrow said the commission is a very special group that has done a lot of work to help with the memorial project.
“These ladies and men were put together to help support the National Memorial of Military Ascent and on the seventh of June they put on a fundraiser extraordinaire with Raging Rivers and it was a lot of work that went into that,” Mayor Morrow said. “We’re very very grateful for all that they did.”
The Stars and Stripes Commission includes Elaine Baumgartner, Julie Golenhorst, Brenda Bechtold, Chirs Grigsby, Dennis Bradfisch, Deseray Hardwick, Trebe Bradfisch, Jessica Hayes, Joanie Chamberlin, Jessical and Jeremey Hayes, Melody Dossett, Sharon Henderson, Lisa Fitzgerald, Sherrie Hickman, Lula Flowers, Phoebe McVey, Bobbie Mills, Sierra Williams, Lynne Morrow, Mike Morrow, Patrice Saad, Bobbie Smith, Donna Smith, Joellen Sudmeier and Brittney Weber.
