Last minutes heroics save victory for Cougars

West Central blocked a field goal attempt with 4 seconds remaining, and the Cougars held on to beat Triopia 8-6 in high school football Aug. 27 at Triopia.
Parker Hoots made a touchdown saving tackle at the 3-yard with 8 seconds remaining in the game after Triopia completed a 21-yard pass. Triopia gained possession with 1:14 remaining after forcing a turnover at its own 49-yard line.
The Trojans were called for a delay of game penalty after the pass play that moved the ball back to the 8-yard line, and their quarterback spiked the football to stop the clock. Triopia attempted a 24-yard field, but the interior of the West Central interior line was able to rush through and block the kick with 4 seconds remaining.
West Central was call for three illegal procedure penalties before finally taking a snap from inside the 1-yard. Tyson Brown was able to take a knee to run off the remaining time, and the Cougars were able get the victory.
The Cougars lost fumbles on their first two possessions of the game before putting together a 10-play, 73 yard drive.
Ryan Moore scored on a 15-yard run to give West Central the lead with 44 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Chase Little ran for the conversion, and the Cougars led 8-0. Lathan Barnett had a 16-yard run during the drive.
Triopia answered with a 60-yard drive and scored on a 24-yard pass with no time remaining in the first half. The Trojans did not convert the conversion, and West Central led by two points at halftime.
The Trojans had the best scoring chance of either team in the second half, and that came in the last
West Central did drive to the Triopia 20-yard line in the third quarter before losing the ball on a fumble.
Owen Barber recovered a Triopia fumble at midfield with 2:49 remaining in the game. The Cougars faced a 4th-and-1, but the Trojans caused a fumble and regained possession with 1:14 remaining.
The Cougars finished with 14 first downs and 209 yards of total offense.
Barnett rushed for 112 yards on 23 attempts, and Moore rushed for 58 yards on nine attempts. Little rushed for 28 yards on six attempts.
Brown completed three of six passes for 20 yards. Landon Barnett caught one pass for 10 yards. Mason Berry caught one pass for six yards, and Moore caught one pass for four yards.
Lathan Barnett had 10 tackles for West Central’s defense. Landon Barnett had eight tackles, including two for losses. Eli Brown had eight tackles, and Barber had six tackles and recovered a fumble.
