The Jersey County fire stations, QEM, Godfrey, Jerseyville, Brighton, and Fieldon answered a call to work together to battle a bluffs fire near Grafton on Friday, Nov. 19.
Chief New stated that the area firemen from the five area fire stations will stay at the scene and continue to fight the fire as long as it is safe for them to do so. As of 5 p.m. Friday, the chief said firefighters had been out there for a few hours with the bluffs blaze.
The terrain where the fire broke out is not a good area to fight a fire. Area firemen had enough manpower from the other fire stations to work together to battle this fire outbreak. It is not unusual for Jersey County’s fire stations to work together when fires happen like this.
The fire that broke out this past Friday reminded Chief New of the bluff fire that happened close to Pere Marquette a few years ago that took three days to extinguish. Hopefully this fire won’t last like the Pere Marquette fire did.
