Three lucky people actually got paid to shop and support local businesses by playing the Jersey County Business Association’s recent 12 Days of Christmas Shopping Adventure. Nancy Spencer won third prize of $100, Connie Blackorby won second prize of $200, and Penny Chandler won the grand prize of $300, all awarded in JCBA Gift Certificates.
Penny Chandler, this year’s Grand Prize winner said, “I was so excited to find out that I had won – I’ve played before but this was my first year to get to all the businesses and get a fully-punched playing card. I do it together with my mom. It’s a great way to find out about businesses that I didn’t even know were here. I always look forward to how nice everyone is and this year they were all decorated so nicely too.”
Not only did the players enjoy their shopping adventure, but local businesses had fun too. Steve Medford – Edward Jones office in downtown Jerseyville is one of the JCBA member businesses who participates in the program each year. Registered Branch Manager Sara Norman said, “We love getting to be a part of it, and we like to have a lot of fun with our day. This year we offered treat bags, we set up a Christmas rubber ducky pond and Santa even stopped in to take pictures. It’s always such a fun way to get new people into our business.“
The program ran during the first half of December and players got a special playing card punched by at least 20 of the 30 participating JCBA member businesses on their designated day & time. If players got all 30 punches they got a second entry into the grand prize drawing. No purchases were necessary to play the game and most businesses offered special promotions or raffles to the players.
JCBA Director Beth Bear said, “Due to Covid, we unfortunately had a few less participants this year than normal but given the circumstances I’m pleased with the turnout and I got some great feedback from our member businesses as well. I’d like to thank everyone who played this year and our member businesses who always help out in a big way to make the event so much fun.”
