This week, Jerseyville residents are learning about a new $16,000,000 water improvement plan led by the Illinois American Water Company (IAWC). This plan aims to improve the water systems and water quality of Jersey County.
Some of the things addressed will be water hardness, pH levels, and chemical feed lines. These upgrades will be vital to the area’s aging water systems. Not only will this make them more efficient, but it will also make the water quality safer and healthier for residents to use.
Manager of External Communications at IAWC, Karen Cotton, shared some insight on the project, “Safe drinking water is something many take for granted, but at Illinois American Water, we understand the importance of continuous investment in our facilities, treatment processes, and equipment.”
In addition to the water systems, a new distribution and operations facility will be built to serve Jerseyville. This is an additional $8,000,000 investment towards the town. It will be over 16,000 square feet with a customer payment window, garage, and operational areas. The project is on track to be completed near the end of 2023.
“When Illinois American Water acquired the Jerseyville water and wastewater systems in October 2020, we made a commitment to invest in and upgrade the local infrastructure. We also made a commitment to support job safety for our employees. These projects are a part of that commitment,” said Cotton.
City officials and members of IAWC are confident the new upgrades will successfully aid the residents of our county.
