Vernon E. Oettle, 87, of Kampsville, passed away at his home on Feb. 23, 2022.
Vernon was born on Dec. 7, 1934, to the late Arthur and Helen (Snyders) Oettle. He married Gloria Brown on March 31, 1962, in Hardin, IL.
He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Hardin American Legion. He loved boating on the river, fishing, hunting, and mushrooming.
Vernon is survived by one son, Jimmie Smith of Murrayville, IL; two grandchildren, Terri Smith and Leahann (Chris) Halemeyer, both of Carrollton, IL; three great grandchildren, Delaney Conn, Sully Conn, and Kolten Allen; one sister, JoAnn (Jack) Kirn of Golden Eagle, IL; six nieces and nephews, Terry (Donna) Kirn of Golden Eagle, IL, Debbie (Wes) Weinman of Fosterburg, IL, Cindy (Amel) Kuhn of Golden Eagle, IL, Susan (Steve) Rose of Golden Eagle, IL, Timmy (Kathy) Hansen of Wako, TX, and Tammy (Scott) Matthews of Kampsville, IL.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Arthur Oettle and Thelma Lee (Gene) Pranger.
Graveside service will take place on Friday March 4, 2022, at 12 p.m. at Hardin City Cemetery in Hardin, IL.
Burial will take place at Hardin City Cemetery in Hardin, Illinois with military rites provided by Hardin American Legion.
