From the desk of Pastor David Slagle-217-473-1892
Just a few more days and summer is officially here. I used to hear older people say, “be glad when the weather is warmer, for my old bones can’t take the cold.” Well now I know what they meant. We welcomed a great gathering this morning. Our message this morning was from the book of Mark chapter 14:27-42. “Jesus predicts Peter’s denial.” Peter was a Galilean and one of the first chosen to follow Jesus. He would be seen as the leader of the apostles and spokesman on occasion. It has been said that next to Paul, Peter may be the most influential apostle in the new Testament. Peter would be part of the inner circle along with James and John, “the sons of thunder.”
In Mark 14:18, “As they were eating, Jesus said, assuredly, “I say to you, one of you who eats with me will betray me.” Here Jesus is telling them that none of them, including Peter, will be strong enough to face what is going to happen. I invite you to read these verses and put yourself at the table watching and listening to Jesus as he speaks these words. Read these words over and over and place yourself in Peter’s place at the table. It is impossible to grasp what Jesus was going through that night for he knew what was ahead of him and he knew the hearts of the apostles. But later, in chapter 16:1-8, we see that Peter is restored.
Our Wednesday evening bible study will resume Wednesday evening, April 6, at 6:30 p.m.
Our recent prayer requests are: Debbie, Eric, Farrell for Patty, Vera’s sister and son’s sick wife, Randy and Diane, for the families who have lost love this past week and for the ones affected by the fire this morning in Roodhouse. We invite you to join us each Sunday morning for our 10:30 worship service. God bless.
