Illinois State Regent Debra Coe of Rochester was the guest speaker at the Dr. Silas Hamilton Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) luncheon meeting at the home of Sue Beach on Saturday, May 7. New members, Donna Postlewait and Linda Crotchett were welcomed into the chapter.
The state regent visits each of the 105 Illinois chapters and seven districts during the two-year term of office. Each regent has a project that is supported by all of the chapters and State Regent Coe’s project is Wreaths Across America.
Her topic, “My Grandmother’s DAR,” dealt with the idea that many of the traditions of the organization have changed with the times and will continue to change, but the basic values established by the founding women have not. Those values of Patriotism, Education and Historical Preservation remain the core of the organization.
The Executive Board will meet in June to organize next year’s meetings to begin in September. If you are interested in becoming a DAR member please contact Rita Heneghan at 618-498-3642.
