This mockup design shows what the new outdoor fitness court in Jerseyville is going to like. Next week, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the court, which is in Lions Club Park.
For the last few years, the city of Jerseyville has introduced a variety of projects to reinvigorate the community, the most recent of which was Historic City Center Park, which was completed last fall. The newest project to continue the city’s efforts is the outdoor Fitness Court in Lions Club Park.
The Fitness Court is located at the corner of North Jefferson and East Spruce streets. The court is free to use, with no fee required to take advantage of the new attraction.
The court features seven different “training zones” and even utilizes a mobile app, “Fitness Court” that offers a “coach-in-your-pocket” resource to accompany use of the court. The app is free to download on both iOS and Android devices. The seven training zones available to use are: Core, Squat, Push, Lunge, Pull, Agility and Bend.
The city was able to construct the Fitness Court through a grant from National Fitness Campaign (NFC), which is a social enterprise founded in California.
Jerseyville joins a group of over 150 cities that offer the Fitness Court. The court offers a full body workout circuit that “can be completed in just seven minutes.”
The City of Jerseyville, along with local donors and the NFC, will unveil the Fitness Court next Tuesday, May 24, at 5 p.m. to introduce the community to its newest resource. The public is encouraged to join the City Council, Jerseyville Parks and Recreation Department (JPRD), representatives from Jersey Community School District 100 and Jersey Community Hospital and Wellness Center “for a gathering to celebrate health and wellness in our community. Trained ambassadors from the Wellness Center will be on hand to assist with questions and tutorials about the complex.”
More information about the Fitness Court and the unveiling can be found on the JPRD’s website parks.jerseyville-il.us or by calling 618-498-2222.
