In their final game of the season Thursday afternoon, the Lady Spartans looked as if they were going to make a comeback late in the game to defeat Litchfield, but it was a case of too little too late and Litchfield came out on top 5-4 to end the Lady Spartan season.
North Greene trailed 5-1 heading into the sixth inning when the Lady Spartan offense finally woke up. Kailyn Hoesman led off with a hit, then advanced when Maddi Osborne drew a walk.
A base running error gave North Greene the first out and Kassidy Riley scored Osborne on a hit. Libby Rogers then reached base and Bailey Berry then ripped a two run double to bring in Riley and Rogers and bring the score to 5-4 heading into the seventh.
The Lady Spartan defense, pumped from their offensive attack, came out looking sharp and set down the Lady Panthers in order, but were unable to muster any more offense in the bottom of the seventh and the score remained 5-4 with Litchfield on top.
Rogers went 3 for 4 on the afternoon scoring 2 runs; Berry went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s including a double; Kahsey Poe had 2 hit by pitch and 2 bases on balls; Riley went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI and scored 1 run; Sammy Poe went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI.
Down the road, the Spartans hosted the Pittsfield Saukees and while North Greene hung tough early, trailing just 2-0 after 3 innings, they couldn’t get their offense going and eventually fell 11-0.
Garrett Hazelwonder had a banner afternoon going 3 for 3 to anchor the offense for North Greene.
