Nothing says off to a great season like winning the first three meets of the season, including your own invitational tournament. That’s just what the Saukee boys golf team has done.
Saturday, Aug. 20, the team hosted an invitational tournament at Old Orchard County Club and the team shot a 345, followed by Illini West’s 351, Rushville/Industry, 381, Brown County, 403 and West Hancock, 436.
Nolan Daniel was low for the Saukees with an 82, followed by Abe welbmourne 83, Jameson Noble had an 89 and Brennan Tomhave shot a 91. Lucas Nichols shot a 96 and Liam Bonnett, a 99,
Pittsfield players competing as individuals were: Kyle Bradshaw, 98,Vinny Olson, 107,Luke Saxe, 109, Ethan Darnell, 114. Bobby Harris, 114, Joel Neble, 117 and Maxwell Bonnett, 126.
The Pittsfield High School boys golf team was in Rushville earlier in the week and won a match in at Scripps Park.
Pittsfield was low with 168, followed by the hosts with 182. The Pittsfield J.V. turned in a 198.
The Saukee varsity was led by Jameson Noble with a 40, earning him medalist honors, Brennan Tomhave, 41, Abe Welbourne, 42, Lucas Nichols and Kyle Bradshaw tied with 45. The top four scores counted in the team total.
The junior varsity was led by Luke Saxe with 45, Vinny Olson, 46, Ethan Darnell, 2, Maxwell Bonnett, 60 and Joel Noble, 62.
The open meet of the season is always West Cental and is played at Plum Creek.
This year the Saukees shot a163 to defeat the host’s 232.
Abe Welbourne and Brennan Tomhave both shot 39s, followed by Jameson Noble’s 41, Lucas Nicholas Nicholas, 44 and Liam Bonnett and Kyle Bradshaw’s 45.
Luke Saxe, had 49 and Vinny Olson a 51 playing a junior varsity round.
