Berry and Brown score five touchdowns to beat Triopia

Mason Berry scored three touchdowns, and Tyson Brown scored two to lead West Central to a 38-6 win over Triopia Aug. 26 in high school football at Winchester. Chase Little scored the other touchdown.
Triopia was forced to punt on its first possession of the game, but the Trojans intercepted a pass on West Central’s first play from scrimmage. Jake Mueller scored on a 16-yard run, and Triopia led 6-0.
West Central was forced to punt in its next possession. Ryker Ford recovered a fumble on the punt return, and the Cougars regained possession at the Triopia 41-yard line.
Berry scored on a 4-yard run to tie the game with 4:16 remaining in the first quarter. Berry had a 29-yard run, and Brown had an 8-yard run in the drive.
The Cougars appeared to convert the extra point on two different chances, but both were canceled out by penalties.
West Central took the lead with two touchdowns in the second quarter.
Chance Little scored on a 3-yard run with 5:31 remaining in the quarter, and Brown ran for the conversion. Brown scored on a 3-yard run with 39 seconds remaining to give the Cougars a 20-6 lead at halftime.
The Cougars received the second half kickoff and went 54 yards in two just plays.
Ford had a 50-yard run on the first play of the second half. After a penalty, Brown scored on a 9-yard run to extend the lead to 26-6.
Berry scored on a 9-yard run with 1:11 remaining in the third quarter and scored on a 19-yard run with 7:39 remaining in the fourth quarter.
West Central finished the game with 431 yards of offense and had 22 first downs in the game. It gained 423 yards on the ground on 52 attempts.
Triopia had 110 yards of offense and seven first downs.
Berry rushed for 146 yards on 15 attempts to lead West Central. Ford rushed for 135 yards on 14 attempts. Brown rushed for 69 yards on 12 attempts.
Little rushed for 43 yards on six attempts. Gavyn Thomas rushed for 25 yards on three attempts.
Brown completed two of six passes for eight yards. Ford and Conner Turner each caught one pass for four yards.
Berry intercepted two passes, and Ford recovered a fumble.
The Cougars play at Beardstown (0-1) Friday at 7 p.m. The Tigers lost at Greenfield-Northwestern last week.
