The 31st annual Jersey County apple festival is set to begin Saturday, Oct. 1, as the area welcomes the approaching fall season.
The event organized by the Jersey County Historical Society will be held at the historic Cheney Mansion at 601 N. State St. in Jerseyville, starting at 9 a.m. and running until 5 p.m.
The festival grounds will be filled with vendors selling a variety of foods and gifts along with craft booths and a quilt raffle. Pioneer demonstrations will also take place during the day. All apples for the event come from the Joe Ringhausen orchard in Fieldon.
According to Historical Society Vice President, Beth McGlasson, the organization is looking forward to their first normal year for the annual festival, since 2019, before the pandemic began.
“Honest to goodness I’m so excited we are getting back to our normal way of life. Two years ago we didn’t have our normal buildings up. This is the first year we have gotten back to normal. We’re really excited about that,” McGlasson said.
The live entertainment for this year’s festival is all local, including Jersey County’s own, the Gibson Girls, performing at 12 p.m. and the Rockabilly Revival band at 1:30 p.m. Historic tours of the Cheney Mansion, Log House, and Lone Star School will be offered during the event.
Prices are $5 for adults, and free for children six and under. Admission to the festival itself is free and all sales from the event will support the Historical Society.
“We are a nonprofit, we don’t get state funding. This event is our big fundraiser that helps us keep our buildings up,” McGlasson said. “We always have a tremendous crowd for the festival. The support from the community is phenomenal for this event.”
Anyone looking to reserve a vendor spot for the festival can call 618-946-4240 to do so. Further information pertaining to the event can be found at www.jerseycountyhistory.org.
