The Warriors pushed Mendon throughout Thursday’s home game securing the win by one point in the final quarter, 17-16.
The Calhoun Warriors football team won Thursday’s home opener against the Mendon Mustangs, 17-16.
The Warriors had a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, but Mendon was able to cut it in half before the start of the second half, 14-8.
Mendon managed to take the lead in the fourth quarter with a touchdown and scored on a two-point conversion,16-14.
The Warriors held the Mustangs at 16 points for the night, securing the win with a field goal kick from Pat Friedel.
“We played great defense, got stops when we needed and we got the first downs we needed to win the game,” Head Coach Aaron Elmore said. “It was just an overall team effort. I’m very proud of the effort they put forth tonight.”
The Warriors finished the evening with 302 total years, Chris Stanley had two touchdowns, Hunter Roth scored two points on conversion and Pat Friedel scored three on a field goal.
“The kids played their hearts out tonight” Elmore said. “We made a few mistakes, there’s some stuff we gotta clean up but it’s early in the season. Our kids gave everything they had.”
The Calhoun Warriors hold a win-loss record of 1-1 and play at home again this Thursday against West Central at 7 p.m.
