The Grafton City council met on Tuesday and addressed multiple items of note.
The meeting was attended by three former mayors, Richard Mosby, Bobby Amber, and Tom Thompson. The first item to start the meeting was the council’s approval of last month’s meeting minutes. This was followed by a certificate of appreciation award presented by Mayor Morrow to Robert ‘Bob’ Sanders for the service he and his waste service company have provided to the City of Grafton.
“I am grateful for the recognition and for this award,” Sanders said. “I will humbly receive it on behalf of the dedicated employees who worked for me.”
This was followed by former mayor Thompson being recognized for his work with the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative (MRCTI). The MRCTI is an organization led by over 100 mayors in 10 states who are dedicated to the prosperity of communities along the Mississippi River.
“We are very proud of Grafton’s founding role under Tom Thompson’s tenure. We look forward to continuing this work over the next decade,” Morrow said.
Thompson expressed his gratitude toward the recognition and spoke of Morrow fondly.
“He is a great leader. He takes care of our residents, our business community, and he has made Grafton the jewel of the Mississippi River,” Thompson said.
The Treasures report came next followed by the public works report from Nick Hutchens. Among Hutchens’ reports was his praise for an anonymous local teen who pulled weeds and cleaned up around Lighthouse park.
“They showed pride in their community. They went out and did it but didn’t want to be mentioned. I wish I could because they deserve it,” said Hutchens. “Our budgets are small but our hearts are big.”
The city council also voted unanimously to award a $136,700 contract for sidewalk and street repairs in the Grafton Hills subdivision to RCS Construction, Inc. RCS presented itself as the lowest, responsible responding bidder at the sealed bid opening that occurred at the Grafton City Hall at 10 a.m. on Sept 13.
