The Dr. Silas Hamilton Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recognizes Jersey Community High School senior, Drake Goetten, to receive the DAR Good Citizens Award.
Drake is one of seven area students who have been chosen to receive the award. Other area students are Nicholas Kiel of Brussels High School, Olivia Gresham of Bunker Hill High School, Samantha Kaufman of Calhoun High School, Cooper Fullington of Carlinville High School, Emily Schoen of Gillespie High School, and Jillian Bielsmith of Southwestern High School.
Drake is the son of Aaron and Kelly Goetten and he has been heavily involved in various extracurricular activities.
Drake plays soccer, basketball, and baseball; is the National Honors Society vice president; and part of the Blue Crew. He has also helped out with St. Mary’s Picnic and the Jerseyville Pickleball Tournament.
Drake’s future plans are to attend a four-year university, but is still undecided about what to study.
This award is based on leadership, dependability, service and patriotism. The DAR Good Citizen Program and Scholarship Contest are intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools. The faculty nominates three seniors and the senior class then selects one representative, from the nominated group, to receive the Good Citizen Award.
The Good Citizen winners will be honored at the annual Student Awards Banquet on Monday, March 6, 2023. The Good Citizen essays have been judged and the winner who has advanced to District Competition will be announced at the time of the banquet.
Roberta Groppel and Katie Morgan are co-chairman of the chapter’s Good Citizen Committee.
