The City of Grafton presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Lou Lenkman for her work as Project Manager at the Grafton Museum at the Tuesday, Nov. 15, council meeting.
Mayor Mike Morrow said Lenkman has done a tremendous job while handling finances, construction and securing artifacts.
“She did this on her own time she,” Mayor Morrow said. “ She was very selfless and it took many years, but we are very grateful.”
Alderman Andrew Jackson read a statement from former mayor Rick Eberlin, thanking Lenkman for her vital role in the successful completion of the the “beautiful museum.”
“It was comforting to know that the project was in good hands, and as a Grafton resident I’m very proud of the final product,” the statement said.
Lenkman thanked everyone but said she couldn’t have taken on the project without the help of many others.
“It took a village to build that museum and put it together,” she said.
During the Public Works report it was announced that new playground set for Mason Hallow Park has been delivered and will be installed soon, the Grafton Hills sidewalk work is near completion but depends on weather, and the retaining wall project on Second Street will start at the end of November.
During the Mayors report, Mayor Morrow reminded businesses that the non-home rule sales tax will be 9% starting in January, thanked everyone who participated in the city’s flood exercise, said two $5,000 rebate checks have been distributed for homeowners who have moved into Grafton Hills. Mayor Morrow also said that the Senior Christmas Lunch and Cookie Exchange will be on Wednesday, Dec. 21, and the Christmas dinner for the city will be Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Pere Marquette Lodge.
Alderman Andrew Jackson spoke about the Grafton Illinois mobile app for the city that is now available which includes an events tab and contacts for businesses and lodging.
One detail of the app is a new Grafton Visa Gift Card.
“A lot of businesses have wanted to do gift certificates,” Jackson said. “We were able to develop a gift card that is debit card based and it’s good any where in the City of Grafton, in any business that routinely accepts debit cards.”
Motion to approve the Mayors nominees for the Grafton Historic District Committee. Morrow sad the committee was formed in 2019 to advise and consent the city council and residents about historic district.
In other business, council approved the October meeting minutes, approved finance committee update and invoices, approved renewal of employee Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance plan, approved special event permit for Santa’s Chocolate Express, approved the Christmas Tree Parade.
Before adjuring the council also approved to move funds and close the Lighthouse account, as suggested by the auditor. Mayor Morrow said the first adjustment would be transferring money from the general funds to the tourism funds for bathroom cleaning, second adjustment would be money from the general funds that was supposed to go the the Grafton Hills funds, and finally closing the Lighthouse fund which has only had $7 in the checking account since 2017. The approval also included renaming the City of Grafton Parks Development to the City of Grafton Park Benches and Bricks fund.
