Zack Evans and Jaydon Howard combined to score 47 points, and West Central beat Pittsfield 66-54 Dec. 6 at Bluffs.
Pittsfield jumped out to a 12-0 before the Cougars scored. Evans finally got West Central on the scoreboard when he connected on a short jumper with 3:18 remaining in the first quarter. Tyson Brown made a three-point basket with just 3 seconds remaining, and the Cougars trailed 19-10 after one quarter.
Evans made a three-point basket, and Mason Berry both scored as West Central got within 19-15 in the second quarter. Pittsfield got a three-point basket before Evans scored six straight points, and the Cougars trailed just 22-21.
Pittsfield scored again, but Evans made a three-point basket with 1:28 remaining in the quarter. The first half ended tied at 24-all.
Howard converted a three-point play to start the third quarter and made two more free throws to give West Central a 29-24 lead. They never trailed again.
The Cougars led 32-28 before scoring nine straight points to extend the lead to 13 points.
Howard made a free throw, Evans had a steal and converted a three-point play, and Dalton Hutton scored off an assist from Carson Brown. Evans finished the run with a three-point basket to give West Central a 41-28 lead.
Evans had another steal and scored on a dunk later in the quarter. West Central led 47-35 after three quarters.
Pittsfield made consecutive three-point baskets to start the fourth quarter to get within six points. Howard and Chance Little both scored to extend the lead back to 10 points, 51-41, with 4:28 remaining.
The Cougars led 61-54 with 1 minute remaining in the game. Tyson Brown made two free throws, Evans had a steal and made two free throws, and Howard made a free throw with 26 seconds remaining for the final margin.
Evans scored 29 points and had three assists and three steals to lead the Cougars (6-2). Howard scored 18, with all of them coming in the second half, and nine rebounds.
Little scored seven points and had six rebounds. Brown scored five points, and Berry scored three. Hutton and Derek Price each scored two points.
Landyn Woods made two free throws with 8 seconds remaining in the game, and West Central rallied to win the junior varsity game 61-59. Pittsfield led at one point, 33-13, in the game.
Woods scored 26 points to lead West Central, and Cameron Sievers scored 19. Caden Meyer scored 11 points. Ronald Bentley scored four points, and Ryker Ford scored one.
