Griggsville-Perry made 19 free throws in the fourth quarter and held off West Central 55-50 in boys’ basketball Dec. 16 at Griggsville.
The game was tied 33-all after three quarters, and Griggsville-Perry scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to take the lead. The Tornadoes made 19 of 22 free throw attempts in the quarter.
West Central got within two points on three different occasions in the quarter. Griggsville, however, converted free throws after each scored.
Griggsville-Perry was 26-for-33 from the line in the game. The Cougars were just 12-for-22.
The Cougars trailed 10-9 after one quarter before scoring the first eight points of the second.
Chance Little scored inside, and Zack Evans made consecutive three-point baskets to give West Central a 17-10 lead with 5:55 remaining in the second quarter. West Central led 23-20 at halftime.
Jaydon Howard scored to give West Central a 29-24 lead in the third quarter. Griggsville-Perry came back to take a 33-31 lead before Dalton Hutton made two free throws to tie the game with 1:04 remaining in the quarter.
Evans scored 20 points and had five rebounds for West Central. Little scored 11 points and had six rebounds.
Howard scored six points and had eight rebounds. Carson Brown scored five points. Tyson Brown scored four points and had four assists. Hutton and Mason Berry each scored two points.
West Central won the junior varsity game, that was shortened to four six minute quarters, 29-25.
Caden Meyer scored 10 points to lead the Cougars. Landyn Woods scored seven points, and Cameron Sievers scored six. Ryker Ford and Charlie Smith each scored three points.
