Warriors lose close game in the fourth Austin Andre Calhoun News Herald The Calhoun Warriors boys varsity basketball team competed in a neutral tournament game versus the Beardstown Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 30. The Warriors would lose the game 78-51. The Warriors got off to a promising start in the first quarter, over taking the Tigers with 16 points and holding them to just 10 points. Despite the positive showing to start the game, the winning spirit within the Warriors team faded in the second quarter, as the Tigers rallied with 21 points. They pounced on the Warriors,who found it difficult to contain the Tigers offense. The tone was set from this point on, as the Warriors concluded the second quarter with 11 points. Heading into halftime, the score stood at 31-27. Eyeing a potentially advantageous quarter, the Warriors came back in the third quarter with 15 points. However, they fell three points shy of the lead, and trailed 49-42. The game didn’t stay close for long heading into the fourth quarter, as the Tigers dropped 22 points on the Warriors, who found themselves handicapped and unable to make a dent on the box score. By quarter’s end, the Warriors had lost 78-51. Notable players for the Warriors were Chase Ralston with 21 points, and Chase Caselton with 20 points. The Warriors played two other tournament games against the Triopia Trojans and South Fulton Rebels. The Warriors lost to the Triopia Trojans 65-49 on Tuesday, Jan. 24, and won against the Rebels 50-42 on Friday, Jan. 27. The Warriors are currently 7-16 as of writing.
