The Calhoun Warriors boys varsity basketball team competed in the Lincolnwood Regionals against the Madison High School Trojans, last Wednesday. The Warriors would go on to lose the game 78-56.
The game began with the Warriors falling short of the Trojans by ten points in the first quarter. The Trojans put together 21 points, while the Warriors could only muster ten. Not down by a significant margin, the Warriors hoped to bounce back in the second quarter. However, they came up ten points short again, scoring seven, while the Trojans dropped 17.
At half time, the score stood 38-19 Trojans. Aware of the ever-expanding point deficit, the Warriors began to pick up the pace in the third quarter. The Warriors scored 19 points yet fell short as the Trojans scored 22. By the fourth quarter, it seemed evident the game was over; still, the Warriors fought on. They scored 18 points against the Trojans but couldn’t overcome the 21 points the Trojans scored in response.
The final score at the buzzer was 78-56. The Warriors finished their season with an overall win-loss record of 12-20 and 4-5 in the conference. The top scorers for the Warriors were Chase Ralston with 16 points and Conner Longnecker with 20 points.
