The Jerseyville City Council held a short meeting on Tuesday, March 7.
Five items of business were addressed during the meeting, starting with a motion to approve ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds towards Phase Two of the Lions Club Park Improvement Project, along with a $600,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The funds from the grant will be used to add a splash pad, a bath house with an open air pavilion, volleyball court, cornhole area, and new fencing. The council approved the motion.
Following the approval, came a motion concerning the commitment of funds toward the Jerseyville Public Library (JPL) expansion project. After taking a vote, the council approved the funds for the project with a grant of $300,000. This money will go towards rehabbing the area’s parking lots and sidewalks. An additional $1.1 million loan will be provided to the library with an $80,000 commitment to be paid back over the course of 20 years.
The third item of business addressed was the creation of a checking account for a $450,000 IDNR and Parks and Recreation (PARC) grant for Susnig Complex improvements. This motion was approved as well.
The second to last issue addressed by the council was the approval of the Illinois Municipal League (IML) to collect and distribute an annual 2 percent foreign fire insurance fee. The fifth and final item of the meeting concerned the appointments of Josh Heltsley and Robert Noll to the Jerseyville Fire Department (JFD). These appointments were approved by the council.
The Jerseyville City Council meets every other Tuesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 115 East Prairie St. Their next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21.
