The Jerseyville Public Library (JPL) is a great place to close up your umbrella and head inside for a variety of events, entertainment and just plain fun this month.
The Easter Bunny will be welcoming families for Breakfast with the Bunny on Saturday, April 8, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the library. Call to register for this event where you will have a donut and a drink, make a fun craft, take a photo with the Easter Bunny and cuddle with LIVE bunnies. The library will be closed on Sunday, April 9 for Easter.
Acclaimed local author, Tom Emery, will be visiting the library on Thursday, April 20, at 6 p.m. to discuss his newest book entitled, “Lincoln and Jersey County, Illinois” all about the many ties President Lincoln had with Jersey County. No registration is required for this event and all are welcome to attend. Those who are especially fascinated by Mr. Lincoln will definitely want to add this to their calendars. Copies of Mr. Emery’s book will be available for purchase.
Puzzle aficionados may want to take note of two events coming in April. The first is a Puzzle Scramble on Saturday, April 22, where teams of up to four players can compete in a jigsaw puzzle contest where the first team to complete their puzzle will win a prize (and bragging rights). Call the library at 618-498-9514 to register your team, space is limited.
The second event for puzzle lovers is an Illinois Libraries Presents live Zoom conversation on Tuesday, April 25, at 7 p.m. entitled “Secrets of a Puzzle Master, an Evening with Will Shortz.” As most puzzle people will know, Will Shortz is the editor of the New York Times crossword puzzle. Those who call the library to register to receive the Zoom link to watch from your home will also receive a crossword puzzle created exclusively for this event.
There are two other activities on Tuesday, April 25 including Preschool Storytime for ages 2-6 at 10 a.m. and a Movie Matinee presentation of “Missing,” a PG-13 thriller (fresh popcorn provided) at 1 p.m.
All are welcome to attend events and activities at the library whether you have a library card or not. A library card is only required to check out materials. There are many community resources available to those without a card including photocopying and printing, faxing, scanning, notary, public use computers and more.
